KidCare Advice—Helping parents when a child is sick or injured

How do you know whether your child needs simple home treatment, a visit to the doctor or a trip to the ER? We can help you decide.

By finding your child's symptoms in the Pediatric HouseCalls Online index, you can choose any of 80 pediatric topics and learn what level of medical care is needed or, if the illness/injury is minor, what you can do at home to relieve symptoms.

By using the decision chart for each topic - along with your common sense - you can decide whether to:

  • Call 911
  • Call your doctor now
  • Call your doctor within 24 Hours
  • Call your doctor during weekday office hours
  • Give parent care at home

If an adult is sick or injured, please see the advice in Adult HouseCalls Online.

If you think you or your child are having a medical emergency, call 911 or the local emergency ambulance service now! And when in doubt, call your doctor now or go to the closest Emergency Department.
