Your Hospital Care
We want your hospital stay to be as comfortable as possible. Here's some information about your Legacy care providers and other important topics.
Nursing care
The registered nursing staff plays a key role in your care at the hospital. Legacy nursing staff are primarily registered nurses who are supported by licensed practical nurses and certified nursing assistants. They assess your needs and encourage you to become an active participant in your plan of care. Feel free to ask the nurses questions regarding your care while you are hospitalized.
Teaching programs/students
All Legacy hospitals are teaching institutions. Education programs are conducted throughout the hospital and may involve medical students, residents, nursing students and students in allied health professions. In some areas of this hospital, your care may involve persons who are in an academic program under the supervision of a qualified health professional. Feel free to discuss any concerns you may have with your doctor or nurse.
Family-centered care
Legacy's hospitals truly focus on the family, emphasizing patient and family involvement in everything we do. We are supportive of family members participating in your care, if you desire. Their increased awareness of your need for rest, support and encouragement to exercise, and their willingness to help with daily activities and responsibilities will be a great benefit. Your nurse will help your family gain the skills and confidence necessary to help with your recovery.
For your protection
You will notice that your caregiver wears gloves, gown, mask or protective eyewear when performing some of your care. These items are for your safety and that of your caregiver as required by Occupational Safety and Health Administration Standards and hospital policy.
We encourage our patients to be proactive in their own care. We expect all caregivers who have physical contact with their patients to wash their hands before and after contact. If you do not see this happening, please ask your caregiver if she/he has washed her/his hands. See It's OK to Ask for more information.
