Patient and Family Support Services

Going to the hospital can be a scary, stressful time for children and their families, but we offer a wide range of support services that can help.

Information about specific diseases, disabilities, hospitalization, child development and family concerns. Internet access, and community and national resources are available to parents.

Art Therapy Program
Gives children and their family members the chance to express their feelings and concerns about hospitalization, injury and illness through creative self-expression.

Case Managers

Child Life Therapy Program
Helping children cope with the stress of a hospital experience through play. Child Life Therapists provide emotional support for children using a variety of techniques and services such as music, animals and horticulture.

An award-winning therapeutic oasis for patients, family members and visitors, helping to heal both body and spirit. The garden is accessible to everyone, even kids confined to bed.

Clinical resource coordinators (CRCs)
Provide discharge planning services and help families find community resources and other needed support. Ask your nurse for details.

Interpreter Services
The hospital has access to interpreters for a number of foreign languages. For more information, ask your nurse.

Music Rx® Program
This award-winning program uses the therapeutic benefits of music to create a soothing escape, a way to express emotion and simply be a kid. Music RX® mobile music carts enable kids to record songs, burn Cds, make music videos and more.

Pet Therapy Dogs
Specially trained and certified animals who bring hope, love and cheer to hospitalized children. Ask your nurse how to contact this program.

Ronald McDonald House

School Program
Staffed by certified teachers and assistants from the Multnomah Education Service District who provide educational activities in a classroom or at the bedside and will coordinate schoolwork with the child's local school.

Spiritual Support
Non-denominational chapels are open at all times. Chaplains are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for support, prayer, baptism or other requests. You can contact them through the hospital switchboard.

Volunteer Services
Volunteers for the Children's Hospital are available 9:00 am - 8:00 pm to assist staff and provide brief respite to families.
