Our Facilities for Children
Kids have different healthcare needs than grown-ups. That's why Legacy offers outstanding care for children in facilities that are specially designed to help our young patients thrive.
The largest children's hospital in Oregon and the hospital of choice for metropolitan-area pediatricians. Our facilities include:
- Day Treatment Center (DTC) The Day Treatment Center offers a comfortable environment for children undergoing treatments or procedures requiring hospital stays of one day or less.
- Newborn Nursery cares for newborn babies of women who deliver in Emanuel Hospital's Labor & Delivery Unit.
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit(NICU) is one of the largest in Oregon and cares for premature and critically ill newborns in a state-of-the-art environment.
- Infant/Toddler Unit provides inpatient care for post-surgical, injured and ill infants and young children up to age six.
- Kid-Friendly Imaging Room provides state-of-the art imaging services in a whimsical environment that's safe, friendly and non-threatening for kids.
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit(PICU) is designed for the care of critically ill children. Specially trained physicians and nurses staff this unit.
- School Age/Adolescent Unit is especially designed to care for post-surgical, injured and ill school-age children.
- Pediatric Rehabilitation Unit for children ages birth to 18, to help them recover to their fullest level of function after illness or injury. Staffed by a interdisciplinary team of experts who offer the state's most complete program of child development and rehabilitation.
- Children's Day Surgery Unit for children needing medical and surgical procedures but who don't need to stay in the hospital overnight. In addition to surgical and procedure rooms with the latest technology, there's a fun playroom for patients and their siblings.
- Pediatric emergency room - We have a separate kid-friendly waiting area just for children, equipped with child-sized furniture and protected from the adult waiting area.
- Pediatric Development and Rehabilitation - A range of outpatient services are available, such as physical, occupational and speech therapy evaluations and treatment plans, swallowing assessments and therapy and sensory motor integration therapy.
- General pediatric unit - 12 individual rooms providing space and privacy for the patient and family.
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, certified for Level III neonatal care, is able to care for 25 critically ill neonates in seven private rooms and three rooms capable of caring for twins, with room for an additional seven babies in the special care nursery. Family space, including a sleeping area, is built in to each family room.
- Newborn nursery - Designed to keep mother and baby together to support breastfeeding and bonding. Lactation consultant services are available for all breastfeeding mothers and nursery staff are available to care for newborns who cannot be cared for by the mother or a family member.
- Pediatric Development and Rehabilitation - A range of outpatient services are available, such as physical, occupational and speech therapy evaluations and treatment plans; swallowing assessments and therapy; and sensory motor integration therapy.
- Pediatric emergency room - We offer a separate kid-friendly waiting area just for children, equipped with child-sized furniture and protected from the adult waiting area.
- Short stay area - Provides pre- and post-operative care for young patients who have surgery or other procedures, but do not require inpatient admission.
