Mount Hood Medical Center Foundation to Hold Benefit Garden Tour August 15
(Gresham) - Garden lovers can help the healing garden at Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center to blossom. On Saturday, August 15, Mount Hood Medical Center Foundation is hosting a tour of local gardens to benefit the hospital’s new healing garden.
The tour features 17 beautiful private gardens, grouped into four regional areas: Gresham, Sandy-Welches, Boring-Damascus and Corbett. Tours start at 10 a.m. and wrap up at 3 p.m. with a finale tour at the Herb and Vegetable Garden at McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale. Refreshments will be served and a no-host bar will be available at Edgefield.
Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 the day of the tour. A program map is included with tickets. Raffle tickets for garden prizes also are available for $1 or $5. For more information on tickets please contact Beverly Herbert, Mount Hood Medical Center Foundation, 503-674-1634.
The new 13,000-square-foot healing garden at Legacy Mount Hood will offer patients, families, visitors and staff a place for socialization, quiet reflection and restoration in nature. It also will provide a setting for patient therapies. Occupational, speech and physical therapists will be able to conduct their sessions in the garden to help patients improve their memory, safety awareness, endurance, balance, strength and walking. Opportunities for the public to volunteer in the garden will also be available.
The garden is under construction and being prepared for fall planting. When finished, it will join a network of healing gardens throughout Legacy Health, which is made up of six hospitals throughout the Portland-Vancouver area.
Mount Hood Medical Center Foundation is raising $255,000 for the garden. The mission of the foundation is to advance patient care, education and technology in medical science at Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center.
The foundation is especially grateful to West Coast Bank-Gresham Branch for being the presenting sponsor of the garden tour. Tickets for the tour are also available at the Gresham branch.
