For your very special delivery
We know that you want to give your baby the healthiest start possible. That's why we offer the latest medical technology for your delivery. Our obstetricians and anesthesiologists offer 24-hour coverage to assist your personal physician and/or midwife. Together with our team of skilled nurses and lactation specialists, we're here for you every step of the way, from pregnancy to delivery and beyond.
While most deliveries are normal and healthy, if specialized support is needed, we have direct access and special transport to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at The Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel, which provides the highest level of neonatal care in this region. That's real peace of mind.
Comfort and privacy
Throughout your entire stay, all your care is provided right in your birthing suite or postpartum room. You'll have a private shower, TV, VCR, and stereo system and a day bed for a family member or friend.
If you need a Cesarean birth, the procedure will be performed on the same floor as the birthing rooms. Once the procedure is completed, you'll return to the comfort of your private room.
After delivery, it's time to bond with your baby. Your newborn can stay with you as long as you like and when you need some rest, our nursery offers a secure environment staffed by our newborn nursing specialists. We take extra-special security measures to ensure that your baby is safe and snug throughout your entire stay.

Visitation changes due to H1N1 flu
Normally, family and friends are welcome to visit new moms at any time. However, because of the widespread H1N1 flu, we at Legacy are especially concerned about the increased risks to pregnant moms and new babies. So, until further notice:
- Hospital visitors ages 18 and younger will be limited to immediate family members only.
- No visitors ages 18 and younger will be admitted to our Intensive Care Units and Family Birth Centers except for parents of Legacy patients.
- In the Family Birth Centers, only immediate family members or up to 2 support persons will accompany the patient during her hospital stay and delivery.
Please know that after careful consideration, these temporary changes are what we believe to be best practice. This is truly a difficult time for us all, and we appreciate your understanding. For more flu information, please see this page.
