About the Program
"We believe that training should prepare the mind without exhausting the spirit" Stephen R. Jones, MD, MACP Program Director
Founded in 1958, our Internal Medicine Training Program was built with a mission to train exceptional future physicians by providing a vibrant learning environment. Today, we continue to offer an outstanding opportunity for you to acquire the knowledge and skills required to thrive in the practice of Internal Medicine.
Your education will be a hands-on experience firmly rooted in academic medicine. Each rotation offers an integrated, comprehensive curriculum that includes frequent interaction with our knowledgeable faculty, nationally renowned visiting professors and third- and fourth-year medical students.
One Program - Two Hospitals - Five Clinics
As a Legacy resident, you'll have the chance to learn in two different teaching hospitals and multiple Legacy clinics, each offering a unique learning environment.
Flexible Training Opportunities
Internal Medicine has changed over the last decade, with many internists choosing between inpatient and outpatient careers. Keeping this in mind, we allow you to design your own career track based on your interest and goals. Whether you want to work as a hospitalist or primary care, we'll help you get there.
Beautiful Environment
Surrounded by mountains, flanked by rivers and only an hour from the Pacific Ocean, Portland offers a huge number of fun activities, from hiking and biking to vineyards and beaches. We incorporate some of our beautiful environment into our training program-all residents attend four off-campus retreats each year, usually in spectacular locations. It's a great chance to connect with your fellow residents while you refresh your body and recharge your mind.
Legacy's Internal Medicine Training Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
