Clinical Pastoral Education
Since its inception in 1951, the Clinical Pastoral Education Program at Legacy Health System has introduced lay persons, graduate theological students and ordained/licensed clergy persons to specialized forms of ministry within the context of a modern healthcare system and parish settings. Students engage in such activities as pastoral visits, participation in worship services, peer group seminars, verbatim case conferences, patient care conferences, interdisciplinary team meetings and individual supervision. In the context of these activities, the student has the supervised opportunity to explore pastoral and personal identity, learn from and about interpersonal relationships, and examine her/his attitudes, values, culture and theological assumptions about life and ministry.
