Biography

Julia's calling to midwifery began as a young girl when she tagged along to home births with her father in rural Ohio. At 16, she knew that she wanted to do the same, and at his suggestion, began pursuing midwifery as her life's work. Wanderlust and the birth of her first child (with midwives in attendance) led her to Portland, where she received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Oregon Health and Sciences University and spent the next decade working with pregnant women and teens as a public health nurse. Julia returned to OHSU for her master's degree in midwifery and since graduation has attended births in homes, birthcenters and hospitals in Oregon, Washington and Wisconsin. She most recently returned to Portland where she is very excited to be a member of the Legacy Emanuel midwifery group. She is honored to be working with a fabulous group of midwives and the diverse community of women and families that they serve.
