Shift Length Worked & Start Times:

8, 10, & 12 hour shifts

Number of Licensed Patient Beds:


Average Daily Unit Census:

100 patients per day

Average Length of Stay:

Variable; 2 hours for admitted patients

Number RNs Working Each Shift:

Minimum 3, maximum 8

Skill Mix: 

RNs, ED Technicians, unit secretary

Average Skill Style of Nursing & Usual Patient Assignment:

RNs are given room assignments - usual 3 rooms per RN

Special Skill Sets Usually Required of RNs: 

ACLS, PALS, ENPC, TNCC certifications; critical care skills/experience
