The Outpatient Medicine rotation at Legacy Medical Group clinics features academic teaching in a clinical setting, with easy access to attending faculty at all times. Emphasis is placed on developing skills necessary for outpatient management. The transitional resident receives instruction in medical interviewing, psychosocial aspects of patient care, and practice management. Formal training and supervision in communication and interviewing are vital parts of the clinic experience. The managed care curriculum in the clinics includes utilization review, continuous quality improvement, computer information systems, resident productivity and procedure coding.
Clinic conferences are held twice weekly and are led by the clinic medical directors. The conference topics include common outpatient disease management and diagnosis, managed care issues, and appropriate referral to subspecialists.
