The Biomechanics Laboratory serves as a resource for basic and applied research. Its mission is to design, test and evaluate new treatment modalities that will advance the quality of patient care and outcomes. Biomechanical engineering provides an important link between the knowledge base of expert scientists and clinicians and the development of new products by industry.
The lab features:
- Comprehensive state-of-the-art equipment with high cross-compatibility to industry standards.
- Inclusive research and testing capabilities, combining design, prototyping, macro and sub-micro scale material testing, motion analysis, and finite element modeling.
- Efficient facility layout, integrating five logistically arranged research areas in the interdisciplinary setting at the Legacy Research Institute.
- Strong collaboration with the Level 1 Trauma Center at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center and with Legacy's orthopedics departments.
