Legacy Cancer Institute: Top-rated, award-winning cancer care

ACR logo   NAPBC

Legacy Health ranks among the nation's best cancer programs, according to the American College of Surgeons' (ACS) Commission on Cancer, a respected authority on cancer care. The Commission also awarded Legacy's cancer program its Outstanding Achievement Award, the only health system in Oregon to be so honored.

Legacy Cancer Institute was the first in the United States to receive Network Cancer Program accreditation from the ACS, and we are still Oregon’s only accredited network cancer program. This means you’ll receive the same award-winning care at any of our campuses, so you can stay closer to home.

Legacy Cancer Institute is also designated a BlueCross BlueShield Distinction Center for Complex and Rare Cancers, for excellence in treating eight types of cancer.

Breast cancer care: See how we compare

Our performance on these important treatment benchmarks rank Legacy among the nation's best for breast cancer care. See how we compare to our peers.

The breast health centers at Legacy Good Samaritan and Legacy Meridian Park have earned the prestigious accreditation for excellence in the care of patients with breast cancer and benign breast disease from The American College of Surgeons' National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).

In addition, all four Legacy Breast Health Centers are designated Breast Imaging Centers of Excellence by the American College of Radiology. To achieve this distinction, a facility's imaging services must be fully ACR-accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.

Radiation oncology: See the results we get for our brachytherapy patients

Legacy Cancer Institute was the first in the region to adopt the highly targeted form of radiation therapy, brachytherapy, which can be especially useful for breast, prostate and GYN cancers. We now have nearly 10 years of experience and have treated the most patients among area providers. Our patients have extremely low rates of cancer recurrence. See our patients' results.

GYN cancer: See our survival rates for uterine cancer

Legacy's patients with uterine cancer survive at higher rates than the national average:

  • Legacy Cancer Institute overall five-year survival rate for patients with uterine cancer: 82.6%
  • National average overall five-year survival rate (among 1,490 accredited Commission on Cancer programs): 79.9%
