MAKOplasty Knee
While a total knee replacement is one treatment option, patients with osteoarthritis may be eligible for MAKOplasty Partial Knee Resurfacing. Legacy Meridian Park and Legacy Salmon Creek were the first hospitals in the Portland-Salem-Vancouver area to offer the MAKOplasty knee option.
Innovative technology
The innovative MAKO treatment uses a robotic arm to resurface only the diseased portion of the knee joint, sparing your healthy bone and surrounding tissue. An implant is then secured in the joint to allow the knee to move smoothly again. Best of all, because the MAKO procedure is far less invasive than open surgery, you'll experience a shorter hospital stay, faster healing time, and a speedy return to your normal active lifestyle.
Benefits of MAKOplasty knee
- MAKOplasty allows the surgeon to remove less bone and precisely place implant, resulting in a more natural feeling knee
- Less implant wear and loosening over time
- Smaller incision, resulting in less scarring
- Faster recovery and shorter hospital stay than traditional knee replacement surgery
- Reduced blood loss
MAKOplasty hip
MAKOplasty total hip replacement is a treatment option for people suffering with either non-inflammatory or inflammatory degenerative joint disease, and is designed to assist surgeons in attaining a new level of reproducible surgical precision in hip surgery. Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center was the first hospital in the Portland-Salem-Vancouver area to offer the MAKOplasty Hip option.
Innovative technology
MAKOplasty Hip is an innovative total hip replacement procedure that is performed using a highly advanced, surgeon-controlled robotic arm system. Total hip replacement consists of removing diseased bone in the acetabulum, which is fit with a cup and liner, and replacing the remoral head with new head and stem components.
Benefits of MAKOplasty hip
The goal of using robotic arm technology to perform hip replacement is to attain consistent precision in surgery. Accurate placement and alignment of implant components are a critical factor in hip replacement. Benefits may include:
- Accurate placement of your hip implant using the surgeon-controlled robotic arm system, which can reduce the likelihood of hip dislocation
- More consistency in leg length, potentially decreasing the need for a shoe lift
- Decreased risk of the implant and bone abnormally rubbing together — this may improve the lifetime of the implant
