Robotic head and neck surgery

Robotic surgery is a significant advance in head and neck cancer treatment, with superior control for the surgeon and significant benefits for you. For our robotic surgeries, Legacy uses the state-of-the-art da Vinci® Surgical System, which has been successful in thousands of surgeries worldwide. Additionally, we have the highest volume of da Vinci® surgeries in Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Innovator in transoral procedures

The FDA recently approved use of the da Vinci® system for transoral robotic surgery (TORS), which will change the surgical approach for many head and neck cancers. The addition of this system makes Legacy Emanuel Medical Center one of the most innovative head and neck surgical centers on the West Coast.

In fact, our physician Eric J. Dierks, M.D., DMD, FACS, is one of the first surgeons on the West Coast to have sucessfully used transoral robotic surgery on cancer patients. Dr. Dierks will focus on patients with oro- and hypopharyngeal as well as supraglottic tumors.
