Support Services

At Randall Children's Hospital we provide many services to help you and your family during treatment. Listed below are just a few of the resources we offer to support your family.

Child Life Program
This program provides a compassionate and comprehensive approach to meeting the emotional, social and developmental needs of children and teens. As trained professionals who work with children in medical settings, each of our specialists holds a bachelor's or master's degree in the area of child life, child development or related fields. Our Child Life Specialists are an integral part of our comprehensive family-centered care team -- helping kids be kids even when they're healing.

School Program
Our school program is staffed by certified teachers and assistants from the Multnomah Education Service District. They provide educational activities in a classroom or at your child's bedside and will also coordinate schoolwork with his or her school. This program helps your child transition back into the classroom, without falling behind and supports siblings, too.

Help for Out-of-Area Families
We offer a variety of resources for patients from out of town, including the Ronald McDonald House-East, a "home away from home" for families and their seriously ill or injured children who travel far to receive treatment.

Family Wellness Center
We know being a full-time caregiver is hard work, and also that children recover faster when their parents stay close by. We want parents to take care of themselves, as well as their children. For your convenience, our hospital has a state-of-the-art Wellness Center and shower facilities, so you can stay physically active during your child's treatment.

Music Rx® Program
This award-winning program uses the therapeutic benefits of music to help children express emotion, create a soothing space and just be kids. Music RX® mobile music carts make it possible for kids to record songs, burn CDs, make music videos and more. This program includes specialized music therapists. Music can also be useful in controlling pain without drugs.

Family Lantern Lounges
These rooms provide families with kitchenettes and comfortable lounge areas in an environment that is comforting and filled with natural light and views to the outside. Toys and games are available in the lounges for families and visitors. The Family Lantern Lounges are open 24 hours each day.

Survivorship Services
Our "Victory Clinic" offers continued health support and individualized care for your child after treatment. We provide follow-up medical plans and identify services and other ongoing activities your family may need. We will help your child manage any symptoms that remain after treatment. We draw from the best care and standards available in Western medicine, as well as other modalities such as acupuncture to manage any treatment side effects.
