Child Abuse Assessment Team

The Child Abuse Assessment Team (CAAT) at Legacy Salmon Creek provides non-acute pediatric evaluations for all forms of pediatric abuse -- neglect, physical abuse and sexual abuse -- during clinic hours 3-4 days a week. Our team includes these specialized professionals:

  • Board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physician with additional child abuse training
  • Medical assistant
  • Medical social worker
  • Program manager

Cooperation with other agencies and providers

The CAAT cooperates with local child protection agencies and law enforcement agencies as well as YWCA advocates. The CAAT physician also serves as the regional medical consultant to child protection agencies in Clark, Cowlitz, Skamania and Klickitat counties.

For patients who need emergency medical treatment or hospitalization, the CAAT works in conjunction with the emergency rooms at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center and Randall Children's Hospital in Portland, as well as with CARES Northwest.

Making a referral

Patient intake and appointments are made through the CAAT medical assistant at 360-487-1793. For urgent cases, the Children's Services main number can also be called at 360-487-1777. Clinic referrals require that a mandated report has already been completed.
