Essential to the health of all

Below are some of reasons why Legacy Health is essential to the health of our region.

This is our Legacy ... a history

Legacy's roots go back more than 100 years. Our two largest hospitals were founded (Good Samaritan in 1875 and Emanuel in 1912) by faith-based groups seeking to care for the growing city. As the decades went on, those two hospitals grew into larger health organizations. In 1989 they merged to create Legacy Health System.

What is now known as “Legacy Health” is one of the largest private-sector employers in the Portland metropolitan area.
