Legacy hospitalists: Coordinating care for hospital patients
Primary care doctors are often so busy seeing patients in their clinics that it's hard for them to break away to care for hospitalized patients. When you or a loved one are in the hospital and your primary care doctor is unavailable, Legacy relies on a "hospitalist," a specialist in the field of internal medicine who cares only for hospitalized patients. All Legacy hospitalists maintain American Board of Medical Specialties certification to practice internal medicine.
Benefits for patients
While your Legacy hospitalist is caring for you, they have no outside clinic obligations and devote their full attention to your hospital care. The hospitalist acts as your "attending physician," available to you and your family throughout your hospital stay, and coordinating your care with your primary care doctor and any specialists you need.
Because hospitalists focus only on inpatient care and know the hospital well, you'll receive the best possible care. Some studies have shown that patients treated in facilities with hospitalists have better outcomes and fewer problems, and can go home more quickly.
