Legacy Meridian Park first hospital on the West Coast to use cutting edge weapon in the fight against healthcare-associated infections

This summer, Legacy Meridian Park began trial testing a device called IRiS (Intelligent Room Sterilization).  The technology utilizes ultraviolet light to destroy harmful bacteria, such as MRSA and C. difficile, and prevent healthcare-acquired infections.  This technology  will supplement Meridian Park's current terminal cleaning practices by sanitizing operating rooms and procedure suites every day, as well as each critical care and patient room upon discharge prior to a new patient occupying the room.

During the product trial at Meridian Park, IRiS took just six minutes to disinfect the average patient room and 35 minutes to disinfect an operating room.  With this purchase, Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center becomes the first and only hospital on the West Coast to have the machine, which has been appropriately nicknamed "The Germinator".
