Legacy Emanuel seeks mural proposals

Legacy Emanuel Medical Center is seeking mural proposals from local artists to bring comfort to rehabilitation patients. The hospital rehabilitation services offer outpatient and inpatient acute care to hundreds of people a year.

The mural will be located on the lower level of Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in the therapy pool room. The artist can spread the image out over two different 9 x 18 foot walls or focus in on one location. It must match the interests of a varied audience. The following patients use the pool:

  • Adult rehab patients recovering from stroke, spinal cord injury and/or head injury from the Rehabilitation Institute of Oregon at Legacy Good Samaritan.
  • Children ages 3-19 from Pediatric Development and Rehab from Randall Children’s Hospital.
  • Adult outpatient rehab patients recovering from: back pain, hip/knee arthritis, balance disorders and post-op hip or knee surgery.
  • High risk pregnancy moms on bed rest at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, often pregnant with multiples.

Individuals, groups, art teachers, art students – anyone with talent and time – are invited to submit proposals for a soothing mural project in the therapy room. Legacy Emanuel will cover the cost of supplies, along with a modest stipend. A plaque identifying the artist(s) will also be displayed on the wall.

Proposals should include a conceptual design, past examples of work and a rough cost estimate for supplies. A panel of hospital employees will review submissions. If a suitable proposal is identified, we will make arrangements to proceed with the work during a mutually acceptable timeframe.

Deadline to submit a proposal is Monday, February 11, 2013.

Send proposals to: Amber Shoebridge, Public Relations, Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, 2801 N. Gantenbein, Portland, OR 97227.
