Elective Rotations

Take Your Pick of the Elective Rotations

The transitional resident has three one-month elective rotations. Available electives include (but are not limited to):

  • Anesthesiology
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Internal Medicine (inpatient and outpatient)
  • Internal Medicine subspecialties (Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, Nephrology, Pulmonology and Rheumatology)
  • Medicine and Surgery Intensive Care Units
  • Neurology
  • Obstetrics/Gynecology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Pathology
  • Pediatrics (inpatient and outpatient)
  • Radiology
  • Research

The resident has discretion in selecting his/her electives and may design his/her own elective rotation, under the advisement of the program Director.  All elective rotations must be approved by the program director. Early in the academic year, the transitional resident and the program director discuss electives and the elective selection process. The program director serves as a resource and can make suggestions about electives that complement the resident's anticipated postgraduate training. The chief of medicine and surgery residents are additional resources regarding elective and preceptor choices.
