Legacy Biomechanics Laboratory

The Legacy Biomechanics Laboratory serves as a resource for collaboration between biomedical engineers and orthopedic surgeons. It advances treatment of orthopedic injuries and prevention of trauma by conducting basic and applied research. Established in 1999 by Michael Bottlang, PhD, and Steven Madey, MD, it maintains extensive resources for design, testing, prototyping and computational modeling.

Discoveries in Sight Research Laboratories

Discoveries in Sight is the research arm of Legacy Devers Eye Institute and is internationally recognized for its NIH funded basic and translational research on the mechanisms underlying glaucoma and the prevention, detection and treatment of glaucomatous vision loss.

The Robert Stone Dow Neurobiology Laboratories

The R. S Dow Neurobiology Laboratories conduct basic and translational neuroscience studies to investigate a number of neurological and related diseases and disorders (e.g., epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury, stroke, schizophrenia) using a variety of neuroscience, biochemical, molecular biology, and behavioral approaches.

The Wayne D. Kuni and Joan E. Kuni Laboratory for Cancer Research

Instead of a conventional top-down approach, which eradicates both healthy and cancerous cells, this new research program will focus on the development of a targeted, personalized therapy that works at the metabolic level to kill cancer cells.

Legacy Department of Clinical and Outcomes Research

This department provides support in the design, execution, analysis, and impact of clinical trials and investigator initiated outcomes research. Outcomes research is performed to analyze current healthcare practices to improve patient care and management.

Legacy Institute for Surgical Education and Innovation (LISEI)

LISEI is a state-of-the-art surgical training institute with advanced surgical equipment, robotics, and simulation for training surgeons, fellows, residents, nurses, surgical technicians, and other related surgical staff. It is fully accredited by the American College of Surgeons as a level 1 education center.  Also, this facility is a site for conducting medical device and equipment testing and other preclinical research and development.

Legacy Tumor Bank

A cancer tissue biorepository with a disease-specific collection of snap frozen solid tumor specimens of all types. The Tumor Bank was awarded accreditation by the College of American Pathologists in 2015 through its Biorepository Accreditation Program, and has been successfully re-accredited yearly thereafter. The biorepository currently holds over 8000 unique specimens.
