Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Blood stained diaper, grossly bloody (red) stool or bloody vomitus or mucus. Specimens must have visible blood present.

Preferred Volume

1.0 gram bloody stool, vomitus, or mucus

Minimum Volume

0.5 gram bloody stool, vomitus, or mucus

Transport

Refrigerated (2-8°C)

Rejection Criteria

Specimens with no visible blood present.

Stability

Ambient (18-26°C): 48 hours; Refrigerated (2-8°C): 3 days; Frozen (at or below -20°C): Unacceptable
