Whole Blood, one dark green (sodium heparin) top tube
HOSPITAL PATIENTS ONLY: Whole Blood from heparinized blood gas syringe is also acceptable

Handling

Collect specimen anaerobically. Keep tube capped.

1.3 mL, (Whole Blood 1.3 mL minimum draw)

Unopened, Refrigerated (2-8°C) or room temperature

Rejection Criteria

Specimens collected in tubes with benzalkonium heparin, EDTA, citrate, oxalate, fluoride or in plasma separator tubes

Ambient (20-25°C): 1 week; Refrigerated (2-8°C): 1 week; Frozen (at or below -20°C): Unacceptable
