Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Plasma or Serum, one 5.0 mL lavender (EDTA) or gold (SST) top tube

Handling

Centrifuge blood sample and remove plasma or serum before transporting.

Preferred Volume

1.0 mL

Minimum Volume

0.5 mL

Negative:     Enterovirus nucleic acid not detected by RT-PCR.
Positive:       Enterovirus nucleic acid detected by RT-PCR.

Comments

A negative result does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient specimen or Enterovirus nucleic acid in concentrations below the level of detection of the assay.
