Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Serum or Plasma, one 7 mL red, 4 mL dark green (sodium heparin), or 4 mL lavender (EDTA) top tube.  SST and PST tubes are NOT recommended.

Handling

Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature (minimum: 30 minutes). Centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.

1 mL Serum or Plasma

Minimum Volume

0.5 mL (Whole Blood minimum draw 1.5 mL)

Transport

Refrigerated (2-8°C)

Rejection Criteria

Specimens collected in gel separator tubes (PST or SST)

Stability

Ambient (20-25°C): 1 week; Refrigerated (2-8°C): 1 month; Frozen (at or below -20°C): 3 months, avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles
