This test detects the following targets:  Campylobacter,  Plesiomonas shigelloides, Salmonella, Yersinia enterocolitica, Vibrio, including V. cholera, Enteroaggregregative E. coli (EAEC), Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC), Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC), Shiga-like toxin-producing E. coli (STEC), E. coli O157, Shigella/Enteroinvasive E. coli (EIEC), Cryptosporidium, Cyclospora cayetanensi, Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, Adenovirus F 40/41, Astrovirus, Norovirus GI/GII, Rotavirus A, Sapovirus.

Guidelines

This assay does not detect Aeromonas or Bacillus cereus group. This assay is not intended to monitor or guide treatment for C. difficile infection.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Stool collected in a clean container and placed in Enteric Transport (Cary Blair) within one hour of collection

Patient Instructions for Collecting a Stool Sample

Handling

Preserve stool in Enteric Transport (Cary Blair) provided by Legacy Laboratory Services within one hour of collection. See Specimen Collection-Transport Guide for Stool Orders. Fill the enteric transport vial until liquid reaches the line on the label, approximately 0.5 gm of stool.
