Guidelines

H.pylori has been implicated in the etiology of a variety of gastrointestinal diseases including chronic active gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, non-ulcer dyspepsia and gastric adenocarcinoma and lymphoma.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

 Serum, one 5.0 mL gold (SST) or 7.0 mL red top tube

Handling

Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature (minimum – SST: 30 minutes, red top tubes: 60 minutes).  Centrifuge and separate serum from cells ASAP.

0.5 mL Serum

Minimum Volume

0.25 mL Serum (0.75 mL minimum whole blood draw)

Rejection Criteria

Grossly hemolyzed, icteric or lipemic specimens; contaminated specimens; heat inactivated specimens; plasma.

Stability

AFTER SEPARATION FROM CELLS:  Room temperature (18-26°C): 24 hours; Refrigerated (2-8°C): 3 days; Frozen (≤ -10°C): 29 days (not more than 5 freeze/thaw cycles).
