Guidelines

Order this panel to differentiate acute hepatitis A, B, and C.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Serum, one 5.0 mL gold (SST) or 7.0 mL red top tube

Supply Item Number - 101235 or 101192

Handling

Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature (minimum: 30 minutes). Centrifuge and separate serum from cells ASAP. Immediately refrigerate (2-8°C).

Preferred Volume

3.0 mL Serum

Minimum Volume

1.5 mL Serum (4.5 mL minimum whole blood draw)

Transport

Refrigerated (2-8°C), if the specimen will be delayed more than 48 hours, freeze serum at ≤ -20°C

Rejection Criteria

Grossly hemolyzed or plasma specimens, specimens contaminated with microbes

Stability

BEFORE SEPARATION FROM CELLS: Refrigerated (2-8°C): 24 hours

AFTER SEPARATION FROM CELLS: Ambient (18-26°C): 1 hour; Refrigerated (2-8°C): 48 hours; Frozen (≤ -20°C): 2 months
