Guidelines

Infectious mononucleosis is an acute, self-limited, infectious disease caused by Epstein-Barr Virus

Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Serum or Plasma, one gold (SST) or lavender (EDTA) top tube

Handling

Allow blood to clot, centrifuge serum or plasma and immediately remove from cells to a plastic tube.

Preferred Volume

0.50 mL

Minimum Volume

0.25 mL (0.70 mL minimum whole blood draw)

Refrigerated (2-8°C)

Stability

Refrigerated (2-8°C): 48 hours; Frozen (at or below -20°C): 3 months
