Infectious mononucleosis is an acute, self-limited, infectious disease caused by Epstein-Barr Virus
Specimen Collection Requirements
Serum or Plasma, one gold (SST) or lavender (EDTA) top tube
Allow blood to clot, centrifuge serum or plasma and immediately remove from cells to a plastic tube.
0.25 mL (0.70 mL minimum whole blood draw)
Refrigerated (2-8°C): 48 hours; Frozen (at or below -20°C): 3 months
Available on a STAT basis for Legacy inpatients.
The Mono Screen is performed at all Legacy facilities.
