Preferred test for differentiating Crohn disease from ulcerative colitis in inflammatory bowel disease.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Collect

Serum, one gold (SST) top tube

Handling

Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1.5 mL serum to an aliquot tube.

Preferred Volume

1.5 mL

Minimum Volume

0.6 mL

Rejection Criteria

Contaminated, heat-inactivated, hemolyzed, or severely lipemic specimens

Stability

AFTER SEPARATION FROM CELLS: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

Testing Information

Note

If the ANCA screen detects antibodies at a 1:20 dilution or greater, then a titer to end point will be added. Additional charges apply. ANCA IFA is simultaneously tested on ethanol- and formalin-fixed slides to allow differentiation of C- and P-ANCA patterns.
