A negative test result does not rule out the possibility of Legionella infection due to other serogroups or species of Legionella. A Positive result may indicate a recent or remote infection with serogroup 1. Excretion of Legionella antigen may vary depending on the individual patient. Antigen excretion may begin as early as 3 days after onset of symptoms and persist for up to 1 year afterwards.
