Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

Trough levels are recommended. Reference ranges are based on trough levels. To obtain a trough level, draw specimen just prior to next dose.

Collect

Serum or Plasma, one 7.0 mL red, 4.0 mL dark green (sodium heparin), or 4.0 mL lavender (EDTA) top tube. SST and PST tubes are NOT recommended.

Handling

Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature (minimum: 30 minutes). Centrifuge and separate serum or plasma within one hour of collection.

1 mL Serum or Plasma

0.25 mL (Whole Blood 1.0 mL minimum draw)

Refrigerated (2-8°C)

Rejection Criteria

Serum or Plasma exposed to gel barrier (SST or PST) for more than 24 hours, grossly hemolyzed specimens

Stability

Ambient (20-25°C): 14 days; Refrigerated (2-8°C): 14 days; Frozen (at or below -20°C): 14 days
