Guidelines

Recommend up to 3 specimens, one each night.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

Separate the buttocks and press the tacky surface of the Swube or tape to the right and left perianal folds. Best if taken late in the evening, 1-3 hours after patient has retired, or first thing in the morning before bathing.

Collect

Swube collection paddle, available from Legacy, or clear tape.

Handling

For specimen collection see Patient Instructions for Collecting a Pinworm Sample. After collection, replace Swube paddle in tube provided for transport. If using tape, place the sticky side down on a glass microscope slide and place in a screw-top specimen container.

Frosted, colored or Magic Transparent tape

Stability

Ambient: 24 hours, Refrigerated: 3 days, Frozen: Unacceptable
