Handling

Transfer 5 grams of stool to an unpreserved sterile container (such as a urinalysis container). 

Preferred Volume

5 grams

Rejection Criteria

Diapers. Stool containing barium. Specimens in media or preservatives. Specimens transported at ambient temperature.

Stability

Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: 36 hours; Frozen: 1 week
