*RENAL FUNCTION PANEL WITH ESTIMATED GLOMERULAR FILTRATION RATE (GFR)
Albumin, Calcium, Total CO2, Chloride, Creatinine, Glucose, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sodium, Urea Nitrogen (BUN), Estimated GFR
The GFR is used to assess kidney function and any evidence of chronic kidney disease. Estimated GFR is not reported for patients under 18 years of age.
Specimen Collection Requirements
Recommended 8-14 hour fasting specimen for Glucose
Serum or Plasma, one 5.0 mL gold (SST), 7.0 mL red or 3.0 mL mint green (lithium heparin, PST) top tube
Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature (minimum: 30 minutes). Preferably, separate serum or plasma from cells before transport.
0.5 mL Serum/Plasma, (Whole Blood 1.2 mL minimum draw)
Moderately hemolyzed specimens
AFTER SEPARATION FROM CELLS: Ambient (15-25°C): 8 hours; Refrigerated (2-8°C): 3 days; Frozen (at or below -20°C): 1 month
Colorimetry, Ion Selective Electrode, Enzymatic
See specific test.
Age adjusted ranges.
|GFR Reference Range (mL/min/1.73m2)
||Stage of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
GFR is calculated using the IDMS-traceable MDRD study equation from serum or plasma creatinine, age, gender and race.
