Guidelines

Perform on males ≥ 16 years only. For females and males <16 years old, order Testosterone, Total, Females or Children.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

Morning specimen collected between 6-10 AM is preferred.

Collect

Serum or Plasma, one 5.0 mL gold (SST), 7.0 mL red or 3.0 mL mint green (lithium heparin, PST) top tube

Supply Item Number - 101235 or 101192

Handling

Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature (minimum - SST: 30 minutes and red top tubes: 60 minutes). Centrifuge and separate serum and plasma from cells ASAP.

0.3 mL Serum/Plasma (0.8 mL minimum whole blood draw)
