Guidelines

Perform on females of all ages and males < 16 years old.  For adult males, order Testosterone, Total, Adult Males.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

Morning specimen collected between 6-10 AM is preferred.

Collect

Serum or Plasma, one 5.0 mL gold (SST), 3.0 mL mint green (lithium heparin, PST), or dark green (sodium heparin) top tube

Handling

Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature (minimum - SST: 30 minutes). Centrifuge and separate serum and plasma from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1.0 mL serum or plasma to an aliquot tube.

Minimum Volume

0.2 mL Serum/Plasma (0.6 mL minimum whole blood draw)
