The “dog days” of summer are here; what are your plans?

Jul-2017-Wellness-ProfileJuly 2017

Lewis Low, M.D.

As I’m writing this column, it’s warm. I mean 100-degree warm. That means summer is definitely here and I am looking forward to my upcoming family vacation at Brasada Ranch in Central Oregon, our favorite haunt, because it combines the amenities of Sunriver but the smaller crowds of Black Butte.

We will all be together, which makes me especially happy since my daughter is now married and my son is in graduate school in St. Louis. Even as adults, they are still willing to vacation with their parents. Maybe they hang on to years of great memories the same way that I do, or maybe they just like the free nice dinners!

I love family time, but more than anything I look forward to getting away so that I can come back refreshed. I hope you’ll take some time off to rejuvenate as well, whether that means time with family and friends, travelling or getting caught up on projects at home.

In this issue, we’re also looking for providers willing to submit a brief wellness profile as part of our wellness committee’s effort to encourage work-life balance. If you get a chance, check out the related article or better yet, submit your own summer activity profile.

Whatever your plans are this summer, I’d love to hear from you. Send me an email and let me know what it is you’ll do to step away from work — whether it’s for a day, a week or more, or tell me about the great memories you created.

And maybe if we’re lucky, we’ll all make that lasting memory that gets us through a tough day. I’m still thinking about the perfect slice of pie I found in Lawrence, Kansas, last summer.
