Patients award Legacy physician medal of excellence

The American Association of Kidney Patients has honored William M. Bennett, M.D., with its 2013 Medal of Excellence Award. The award recognizes renal physicians who have dedicated their careers to improving the lives of kidney patients.

The Medal of Excellence signifies a renal physician’s involvement, professional achievements, contributions and accomplishments within the renal community.

Dr. Bennett, medical director of Legacy Transplant Services, was one of two physicians honored during the Renal Physicians Association's Annual Meeting earlier this month.

An expert in kidney transplantation, Dr. Bennett has been an active clinician, researcher and educator. He helped launch the American Journal of Kidney Disease and was the first editor of the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. A principal investigator in approximately 100 research project grants, he has had 407 medical journal publications, and in addition has written chapters or entire texts in 140 different publications.

Dr. Bennett has been identified as a nationally ranked top physician by Portland Monthly’s Top Doctors, America’s Top Doctors and Best Doctors in America.

The awarding organization, the American Association of Kidney Patients, is a patient organization that for more than 40 years, has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for kidney patients through education, advocacy and the fostering of patient communities.
