MyHealth portal expands to include inpatient information
On Oct. 7, MyHealth, Legacy’s patient portal, expanded to include Legacy’s inpatient population (including the emergency department).
MyHealth is a secure, online tool that connects patients to personalized health information in Epic from the privacy of their own home at any time, day or night.
With MyHealth, a patient can now:
View lab and plain film X-ray results four days after they are resulted
View after-visit summary, including patient instructions and problem list, 24 hours after discharge
Access family medical records if they have signed up for proxy access
View appropriate patient education materials
Why is MyHealth important?
The functionalities of MyHealth add efficiencies to patient workflows that help us all better manage costs while improving patient satisfaction and, more importantly, patient care. A patient portal is also an essential tool for health care institutions trying to meet the criteria established by the federal government’s incentive program, known as meaningful use.
Meaningful use sets specific objectives that eligible professionals and hospitals must achieve to qualify for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Incentive Programs. This incentive program is broken out into three stages. Legacy hospitals successfully attested for Stage 1 meaningful use and received incentive payments in 2012. Attestations for eligible professionals employed by Legacy, including incentive payments, were completed in the first quarter of Legacy’s 2013 fiscal year.
Some examples of Stage 2 targets are to:
Ensure that more than 50 percent of your patients have their health information available online within 36 hours of discharge
Have more than 5 percent of your patients view, download or transmit their own health information.
How can a patient sign up?
All patients will receive MyHealth activation codes (with instructions) at admission and on their discharge summary paperwork. Once a patient has their activation code, they can sign up at https://myhealth.lhs.org/myhealth/
