Cardiac rehab now offered to CHF patients
Medicare has expanded coverage of cardiac rehabilitation services to chronic heart failure patients.
“This provides an opportunity to improve quality of life for these patients,” according to Sandra Lewis, M.D., cardiologist and chair of Legacy’s Heart Failure Pillar. “With the close supervision of cardiac rehab staff, patients with chronic heart failure may avoid worsening of their symptoms.”
The change announced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for those “beneficiaries with stable, chronic heart failure” will include coverage for “exercise, behavioral risk factor reduction, health education and personal counseling.”
