Liver and Biliary Cancer

Liver and Biliary Tract (bile duct, gallbladder) Cancer

Different types of cancers may grow in the liver, bile ducts and gallbladder. Treatment depends on the type and extent of the cancer. Legacy provides compassion, expertise and a personalized treatment plan for you.

Types of cancer

Primary liver cancer begins in the liver. It may be hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which is often linked to hepatitis for liver cirrhosis, or cholangiocarcinoma, a cancer of the bile ducts.

Secondary or metastatic liver cancer is a cancer that started in another area of the body and has spread to the liver. It may be present at the time of your first cancer diagnosis or may develop later - during or after treatment.

Gallbladder and bile duct cancers begin in the bile ducts, which connect the liver to the gallbladder and the intestines. These cancers often grow to include the liver or the pancreas.
