Prostate cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in men in the United States. The good news is that early detection and advanced technologies have dramatically improved the success rate of prostate cancer treatment.
At Legacy Cancer Institute we offer leading edge treatments and are committed to finding the one that is best for you. We know that living with a diagnosis of cancer, and its management, can have a profound effect on your functional, emotional, social and spiritual well-being. That's why we offer a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to your care. That means we treat the whole person, because you have a life, not just a diagnosis.
Prostate Cancer Screening
It's important to understand that not all prostate cancer tumors need treatment and that options include simple monitoring.

MRI for a more accurate diagnosis
Prostate cancer can be hard to pin down, especially when it’s small. An MRI provides very detailed views of the prostate. This means your doctor gets more information, earlier, for making a diagnosis and recommending treatment. Most patients who have a prostate MRI need fewer biopsies.
Prostate MRI (also known as multi-parametric MRI of the prostate) is available at Legacy Good Samaritan.
An non-invasive treatment option
High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a new treatment option for prostate cancer. HIFU uses focused sound waves, also known as ultrasound, to heat and destroy cancerous tumors without damaging surrounding tissue, nerves and muscles.
Because doctors can precisely focus the treatment, HIFU minimizes the risk of side effects, such as problems to urinary and erectile functions, to allow men to maintain their quality of life. Legacy Health is one of the few health care organizations on the West Coast that offers HIFU, which is one of several options for addressing prostate cancer.
