Obstetric Hospitalist Program
As part of our commitment to provide pregnant women and their babies with the highest quality care based on the latest research and safety, OB hospitalists provide 24/7 hospital care for family birth center patients at Legacy Emanuel and Legacy Salmon Creek.
An OB hospitalist may care for you during labor if:
You do not have your own obstetrician or midwife
There is an emergency, such as the unexpected need for a Caesarean section
Your OB or midwife needs assistance during delivery or a Caesarean section
What is an OB Hospitalist?
An OB hospitalist is a board-certified obstetrician who is available at all times in the hospital. They collaborate with your primary obstetrician or midwife as requested, provide in-hospital care for Legacy maternal-fetal medicine patients and provide consultation and back-up for Legacy midwives.
An expert team for you and your baby
Our OB hospitalists are supported by our maternal-fetal medicine specialists who oversee care practices and protocols. When a newborn needs special care, our OB hospitalists and maternal-fetal medicine doctors work very closely with the specialists in our Neonatal Intensive Care Units.
Who can use OB hospitalist services?
Any patient in the family birth center at Legacy Emanuel or Legacy Salmon Creek can use our OB hospitalist services. They are available at all times to assist in your care, and your primary OB or midwife may ask them to help care for you. OB hospitalists do not see patients outside the hospital. It is not usually possible to select your OB hospitalist.
