Surviving the Teen Years

Surveys show that the earlier parents receive awareness information, the better prepared they may be to meet the challenges of their child's teenage years. Youth ages 10 through 18, and their parents, are encouraged to attend this 2-hour presentation together. The presentation includes local law enforcement, health experts, community representatives from the insurance industry, legal representatives, youth, victims and a family educator. The forum teaches the hazards, consequences and liabilities that result when good kids mix bad decisions with alcohol, other drugs, driving and recreation. A Parent Handbook filled with parenting strategies and information about traffic safety, alcohol, tobacco and other drugs is available to attendees for a suggested $5 donation. (The booklet is also available by mail for $10, $5 of which is tax deductible).

Due to a lack of funding for Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs projects, most Not My Kid Campaign locations are no longer active. NMK Forum Coordination in the greater Portland area is available for an honorarium of $750. NMK materials and consultation are available for $25.

To learn more about the NMK Campaign Forum scheduling or materials and training available to communities interested in developing a program, please call the TNTT Family Education Coordinator at 503-413-2340, or email TNTT.
