Information - Pencil Punctures

Pencil Punctures

  • Pencils contain graphite (harmless), not poisonous lead. Even colored leads are nontoxic.
  • They will cause a tattoo, however, and should be scrubbed out. If pigment remains, the emergency department or doctor's office may scrub the wound again and be more successful. This should be done before the wound heals over.
