Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center takes aim at flu season with IRiS

When Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center began seeing an influx of patients with symptoms of the highly-contagious norovirus (stomach flu), Carol Palmer, director of patient care services, and Peter Mersereau, director of surgical services, knew exactly what to do to keep staff and patients as healthy as possible. Legacy Meridian Park’s IRiS (intelligent room sterilization system) is spending extra time in the emergency room these days. IRiS has the ability to wipe out both norovirus and influenza, as well as harmful bacteria like MRSA, using ultraviolet light. With flu season arriving earlier than usual and a new strain of norovirus, IRiS is being used extensively throughout the hospital to keep people well and stop viruses from spreading.
