24 hour walk-a-thon kicks off heart month
Patients, physicians and staff successfully completed the fourth annual Walk Around the Clock relay at noon on Thursday, February 2, officially kicking off American Heart Month at Legacy Health.
“We are excited for this event to celebrate the importance of staying active to prevent heart disease and also to raise funds to make cardiac and pulmonary rehab a reality for more patients who have suffered heart events,” said Chris Jones, of Legacy Meridian Park’s Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center.
The annual fundraiser, held in the main lobbies of Legacy Good Samaritan and Legacy Meridian Park Medical Centers, benefited Legacy’s cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation services. In addition to the walk-a-thon, the event featured donated raffle baskets, a heart health trivia wheel and information about Legacy’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs.
Drew Carney from KGW News reported live from the walk-a-thon and interview patients, staff and physicians. Click here to view segment 1 and click here to view segment 2.
Legacy physicians, staff, leaders and patients, including Patrick Puopolo and Stacey Rice from Legacy Good Samaritan, Mark Goodwin and Nettie Allen from Meridian Park, walked to raise awareness and demonstrate how adopting a healthy lifestyle can transform your heart health – lessons they learned participating in Cardiac Rehab.
After the final walkers stepped off the treadmills, Legacy Good Samaritan Cardiac Rehab hosted its tenth annual Wellness Potluck where cardiac and pulmonary rehab participants shared their favorite heart-healthy dishes and recipes and celebrated their heart health.
“After lunch, we present awards to those who have made big strides in improving their heart health and those have helped improve others’ by lending their support,” explained Penny Satre, registered nurse at Legacy Good Samaritan’s Cardiac Rehabilitation and founder of Walk Around the Clock.
The public may help those in need achieve a heart-healthy life by making a donation directly to Legacy’s cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation services. Donations can be made online to Legacy Good Samaritan by clicking here or to Legacy Meridian Park by clicking here.
